Storytelling has always been at the heart of my career. It started with my career in TV marketing: utilising persuasive and compelling techniques to drive viewers to watch films and shows but after six years of marketing, my need to tell compelling stories shifted into something more meaningful – after the murder of George Floyd, I relaunched an employee network group which focused on celebrating and supporting ethnic minorities – this network was a safe space and a haven to drive change and equity within my then-organisation. It was and remains a career highlight and after launching the employee network group, I have now switched career paths and dedicate my efforts to driving diversity, equity and inclusion within corporations, full-time. Now, my storytelling looks different but what remains is the same: my innate love for driving empathy, understanding and supporting marginalised voices who deserve every opportunity they desire.
In my DEI roles, I have created wellbeing initiatives for LGBT+ employees, created thought-provoking events to platform cultural events such as South Asian History Month and Black History Month and developed a company-wide Anti-Racism strategy. All of which aimed at driving systemic change, building opportunities and progression paths.
I am passionate, creative and a strategic thinker. These skills will help to elevate METRO’s admirable legacy and work and as trustee, I am excited to support the efforts of an organisation that means so much to so many. This is my first trustee position and I am honoured for it to be with METRO. My aim is to ensure the work of METRO continues to sustain service users through a time of great economic and social upheaval within the UK. I also look to support innovative and creative ways to engage with communities outside of traditional means – taking METRO directly to where service users are, making METRO synonymous with inclusive and accessible services.
I very much look forward to engaging and meeting with those who benefit from the Youth, Community, Sexual & Reproductive Health, HIV and Mental Health & Wellbeing domains that METRO encompasses.
In my personal life, I am a keen reader, writer and traveller. In 2021, I was successfully placed on Penguin Random House’s WriteNow writing programme. I am a Lewisham resident born and bred, with a love for exploring all that SE London has to offer, from the farmers markets to the local restaurants and theatres
