Alongside its intrinsic challenges, Brexit brings the chance to create legislation to promote equality

For the Women and Equalities Committee, the Brexit process offers an opportunity to embed equality into law and policy in the UK. According to MP Maria Miller, “there are two concrete priorities which the Government should focus on: first, to include a clause on equality in the Great Repeal Bill (…), and second, to amend the Equality Act 2010 to empower Parliament and the Courts to declare whether new laws are compatible with equality principles.” The committee’s report is available online.

Proposals are aimed both at consolidating the current rights and policies carried out under the common agreement with the EU and also to allow new research initiatives on equality and inclusion.
