Self-harm as a coping response

25 per cent of young male Britons react to mental health issues with self-harm

Astonishing figures just came from a survey held with British young men, aged 16-24: nearly a quarter of young men self-harm to cope with depression and anxiety. Amongst the behaviour quoted by some of the 500 men surveyed by Mix, Self-Harm UK and Young Minds, are over-exercise, punching walls and drug and alcohol abuse.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Last year 18,778 children and young people in England and Wales were admitted to hospital for treatment for self inflicted injuries – a 14% increase over the last three years".Â
