International Men’s Day takes place annually, and celebrates worldwide the positive value men, and male identifying individuals bring to the world, their families and communities. it provides us with an opportunity to highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s and male identifying individual's wellbeing.

Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Counsellor, Mark Kenichi Davies, reflects on their experience of providing counselling to men and male identifying individuals living with HIV:

"HIV seems to have dropped below the radar, now that treatment and medication are so effective. However, the psychological impact still runs deep. Anxiety of disclosure, loss of relationships, difficulties with sex, and the lingering stigma are all too present and can lead to things like isolation, addictions, even thoughts of suicide; and the pandemic has also increased this isolation for many. I’ve worked with clients and groups in this difficult place, and it’s always amazing to see them start to turn their life around, even if it's small steps. And remote counselling can be just as effective as face-to-face; many clients have got a lot out of speaking on the phone or over video. Reach out – talking to a counsellor, peer mentor, or with a group can do wonders; if you have someone you trust, this may be enough as well."
