A public consultation into the proposed ban on conversation therapy within the UK has been postponed by the government for at least a month, with no new date set. The consultation was due to take place in September 2021 as part of delivering against the government's LGBT action plan published in 2018.

Our Deputy CEO, Andrew Evans, said:

“It is deeply disappointing that the government has delayed its plans to ban conversation therapy. With many of our service users, staff and volunteers identifying within the LGBTQ+ community, we stand in complete solidarity that the government need to take urgent action to resolve this. With each passing day LGBTQ+ people remain at risk of being subjected to conversion therapy, and therefore we urge the government to set a deadline for the public consultation as soon as possible, to solidify their commitment to the ban on conversation therapy.”

Conversion therapy seeks to change or suppress someone's sexuality or gender identity to align with outdated perceived social norms.
