Trans rights

This week two statements were made by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

The two statements, one in response to plans to legislate for a ban on conversion therapy in England and Wales, and the second in response to Gender Recognition Act reform in Scotland, showed a notable absence and exclusion of trans people from improved rights and protections.

Our Interim CEO, Andrew Evans, said:

"We vow to stand now, and always with our trans, non-binary, and gender expansive communities and join our friends at Stonewall UK in calling for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions to urgently review the statements made by EHRC.

"Additionally, we call upon the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson, and First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon to continue showing leadership and protect and progress rights for trans people."
